
Do they speak English in the Czech Republic?
The official language is Czech, but most public places have staff that speak English, German, and various other languages.
What type of currency should I carry?
You should carry a minimal amount of Canadian Dollars for the North American leg of the trip. Once you arrive at the destination, change your currency over or make a withdrawal from an ATM machine available almost everywhere. This way you ensure you get the best currency exchange rate.
What is the best way/form to carry my money i.e. cheque/credit card/cash?
All major credit cards are accepted and you can take out cash for your daily use with your ATM card and one of the many machines available.
Can I use my bank card for purchases (Interac)?
Interac use is not prevalent in most retail locations. However, you can access your account through any ATM.
Do I need special medical coverage in the Czech Republic?
All travelers should purchase medical insurance from their insurance or travel agent prior to departing.
Do I need to worry about any special vaccinations?
No. The Czech Republic has the same standards of health care and immunizations as North America.
What will the weather be like when I go?
The weather is best May-September, when days are warm and the nights are cool (take a sweater). Spring is preferable to summer for avoiding crowds, but summer is preferable to spring for avoiding rain (take along an umbrella)! October, usually a little chilly and wet, is an excellent time to go if you're primarily interested in museums, inside activities or just driving around. Winters are very cold, damp, snowy, often foggy.
What kind of food will I be served?
A variety of meals are available based on central European Cuisine, which encompasses basic poultry, beef and pork done in local sauces and spices. These are usually served with potatoes or dumplings. Vegetarian meals are available upon request
Can I get a morning coffee?
Coffee is served on the same occasions and times as in North America. You may have regular coffee or verities such as espresso, cappuccino and etc.
Can I get vegetarian cuisine?
Most restaurants have vegetarian meals either on their menus or available upon request.
Are there any special custom regulations that I should know of?
The customs regulations are very similar to all Western Countries regulations.
Can I use personal electrical appliances, like my hair dryer?
To use North American appliances you will have to purchase an adaptor suitable for European circuits. This can be purchased at most local electronics stores.
Do I need to dress up when I go out for dinner?
It is not customary to formally dress for dinner. Casual clothes are acceptable most everywhere unless you attend special events such as the opera, philharmonic or concerts etc.
What should I expect to pay for entertainment and meals?
Most of your entertainment and meals are included in our tour prices. However, if you venture out on your own you can expect to pay about half the price you would in Canada.
How easy is it to get around the Czech Republic?
Public transportation is available to all destinations. Extensive use of rail and bus is available. Prague has a vast underground system supplemented by a tramway and bus routes. Car rentals are readily available in all major towns and cities.
Is there anything else that I should be aware of?
Although there is a very low occurrence of crime in the Czech Republic, one should be aware that the major tourist attractions and large cities attract pick pockets, illegal money exchangers and other scam artists.
